Current Clinical Trials

At this time there are no open clinical trials being conducted specifically for silicosis treatment.

To learn about how such trials might be conducted, you can read more about a completed study here. In this particular trial, which was conducted for various lung conditions including silicosis, participants filled out forms about their respiratory situation, took breathing (spirometry) tests, and had the results compared over a period of time with a control group (individuals who were not exposed to the same substances).

A clinical trial was conducted in 1992 on the value of anti-tuberculosis drugs in people with silicosis in Hong Kong-a city with high incidences of both diseases. A technical description of this trial can be found here.

The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute created a special facility, Specialized Center of Research in Occupational and Immunologic Lung Disease, a study which collected information about various lung diseases that result from toxic injury that occur with inhaled agents in the workplace and the environment.
