Assign someone to decide if you are unable

You may specify someone else to make decisions about your care in the event you become unable to do so-this is called a durable power of attorney for health care.
NOTE: Living wills and durable powers of attorney are enforceable in most of the United States. But even if your state does not recognize their validity, you can still create them to express your wishes and serve as a guide for your doctors and your family.
